Essential Job Functions
- Oversee the operations of the Finance Department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the Department’s goals and objectives
- Supervise, manage and coach Department staff
- Maintain, monitor and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures including a robust system of internal controls
- Develop and implement new systems, procedures, and features to enhance the workflow and operational efficiency of the department
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
- Direct the month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting
- Direct external audits including the annual financial, 403(b) and workers compensation audits
- Play a leading role in preparing for and executing future business combinations
- Perform special projects as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer

Experience & Education
- BA/BS in Accounting or Finance or Business Management with an emphasis in accounting required, an advanced degree in Accounting or MBA preferred
- CPA/CMA preferred
- Ten years’ experience in accounting or financial reporting including at least three years working experience in an Accounting Manager or Financial Controller role
- Five years of supervisory experience
- Three years’ recent non-profit experience required including at least one year in an Accounting Manager or Controller role, preferably with a social service agency
- Recent experience working with Commonwealth of Massachusetts contracts
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Must be knowledgeable in establishing and maintaining a strong internal control structure
- Experience creating and producing financial statements
- Significant experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills, experience with AccuFund strongly preferred
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
